2006 buick lacrosse review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Impressive handling, quiet cruising. introductionbuick lacrosse is a premium midsize sedan. It's quiet and pleasant-mannered as we'd expect of a buick, yet its steering is more precise than owners of previous buicks might expect, and it turns into corners crisply, with little body lean. Its v6 engines offer good power, growling under acceleration, but motoring along smoothly and quietly on the freeway, and the transmission works flawlessly.  inside is a rich, high-quality cabin with attractive woodgrain trim, nicely presented instruments and controls, and available leather seats with nice-looking gathered stitching.  electronic features make the well-equipped lacrosse a safe, all-weather family car with nice conveniences. For 2006, abs and side-curtain airbags have been made standard on all models. lineupthe buick lacrosse comes in three models. The cx and the more luxurious cxl come with a 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 rated at 200 horsepower. The performance-oriented cxs comes with 3. 6-liter v6 with modern double overhead cams and variable valve timing that develops 240 horsepower.  the cx 22,935) comes with cloth upholstery and manually operated air conditioning. Standard features for all models include tilt wheel, six-way power driver's seat, programmable power locks with remote keyless entry, power windows and mirrors, leather-wrapped shift knob, and a six-speaker am/fm/cd sound system. All models also come standard with onstar and a one-year subscription. Cxs also boasts additional touches like driving lights under the front bumper.  lacrosse cx and cxl are available with five- or six-passenger seating. Front bucket seats with a center console and leather-wrapped floor shifter come standard, but a six-passenger option moves the shifter to the steering column and substitutes a 40/20/40-split bench seat whose center cushion flips over to become a mini-console.  options include nine-speaker stereo with mp3 capability 545) or six-disc cd changer 695), digital audio with xm satellite radio 325) that includes a one-year subscription, power sunroof 900), heated front seats 295), power adjustable passenger's seat 350), 16- or 17-inch chrome wheels 650), remote starting 150), engine block heater 35), and an exterior chrome decor package 295). The driver confidence package for the cxl 1,250) and cxs 1,150) adds redundant audio and climate controls on the steering wheel, a universal remote transmitter, electrochromic inside rearview mirror, heated outside mirrors, power-adjustable front passenger's seat, ultrasonic rear park assist, and rear-seat reading lamps.  safety features on all 2006 buick lacrosse models include anti-lock brakes (abs) and traction control along with the required front airbags. Optional safety features include side-curtain airbags for head and torso protection, electronic stability control, rear park assist, and stabilitrak electronic stability control. walkaroundlacrosse is unmistakably a buick, with its trademark vertical-bar waterfall grille, long nose, long slopes and simple body curves. A tiny third side window behind the c-pillar adds some visual interest, while at the rear, a discernible dent in the decklid ties the taillamps together and recalls the more adventurous surface development that characterized buicks of the early 1960s. A single, slender chrome spear decorates the doors. Xm satellite radio shares a single antenna with the standard onstar system.  cx models can be identified by a grained, graphite-color finish on the rocker panels underneath the doors, while this panel is body color on cxl and cxs. Otherwise, the base cx has almost no decoration at all, beyond the bolt-on faux alloy covers for its 16-inch steel wheels.  construction quality looks good. Body, door, and fender gaps on the lacrosse are all noticeably smaller than on the previous regal and century models. And lacrosse's headlamps are said to be 35-percent brighter.    to improve crash safety and reduce noise, buick used generous amounts of expensive, high-strength steel, a magnesium cross beam behind the instrument panel, another cross beam behind the rear seats, steel reinforcements in the rocker panels, an interlocking door latch system, high-strength steel door beams, a double-thick quiet steel floor pan and firewall, and structural foam in the front fenders. interiorthe buick lacrosse features a roomy, comfortable cabin with a general look of quality. The standard front bucket seats, clad in leather in the cxl and cxs, feature a new type of stitching, and newly developed silk-impregnated vinyl on the seat side panels emulates the look and feel of leather.  rear-seat legroom is generous, thanks to a relatively long wheelbase of 110 inches. My 6-foot, 4-inch frame can sit behind a 6-foot, 4-inch driver with plenty of room to spare.  interior quality and appearance are enhanced by reducing the number of individual trim pieces, which makes everything fit better and gives the cabin a richer, higher grade look. The instruments and controls are white on black, and each of the three round dials is wringed in chrome and set into a deeply tunneled instrument panel. It's all very nicely presented, and relatively sporty looking.  the center stack is finished a mica-flecked flat black, with a trip computer and driver information system that's easy to put through its menu. However, the information panel is so glossy that it's hard to read in early morning or late afternoon light. Quiet tuning uses specially engineered parts and adds sound insulation in the engine, on the firewall, under the toeboard, inside the wheel wells and in the roof. Buick's quiet tuning has made lacrosse one of the quietest cars in the class.  optional features upgrade this car to a cut above, making for a truly complete, safe, all-weather family car. This is an older cast-iron v6, but it's been thoroughly upgraded internally to reduce mechanical noise and features electronic throttle control. It's rated at 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm, and 230 pound-feet of torque at 4000.  the newer 3. 6-liter v6 that comes on the cxs revs more freely and produces more power despite its smaller size: 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm. Its torque curve is also flatter, peaking with 225 pound-feet at 2000 rpm, but delivering 90 percent of that peak between 1500 and 6000 rpm. Mash the gas pedal and she goes. It works flawlessly.  as mentioned, the lacrosse handles quite well. It has terrific body roll control, meaning it's not bouncing and yawing around when pushed harder on rural roads. The suspension used in the cx and cxs is about 20 percent stiffer than in the old regal or century, with larger stabilizer bars, so the lacrosse handles better than those cars.  we found the csx more sporty to drive on winding roads in northern michigan. We later pushed one of these cars hard on some tight, bumpy canyon roads outside los angeles and found it handles quite well. The grip from the tires is tenacious. Even when squealing around curves, we found it maintained good composure, not losing its poise the way older american sedans tend to do.

2012 buick verano review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. There's a healthy warranty of 4 years and 50,000 miles.  the verano is a great looking car, with sleek stocky lines. It totally pulls off the wedge look, with a short nose, steeply raked windshield, and good character lines. It will be an impressive car to drive around. That's what buicks have always been, and what they're supposed to be. What's especially impressive about verano is that it's a compact car. It's six inches longer than the mazda3, and three inches longer than the lexus is 250.  the interior is classy, with a rugged cloth upholstery in the base model and excellent leather especially in a rich brown. Interior shapes are smooth and the trim elegant, especially in satin bronze with brown leather. Cornering, transmission, suspension and engine, all aces.  the 2. 4-liter ecotec engine with direct injection and variable valve timing makes 180 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque, and that's enough for most situations. It's notably smooth and exceptionally quiet. We found the handling crisp and responsive. The brakes were firm, also. lineupthe 2012 buick verano lineup is simple but confusing, with three models that don't exactly have names, more like codes: 1sd (d for base model), 1sg (g for convenience), and 1sl (l for leather). Verano convenience 23,785) adds 6-way power driver's seat, heated mirrors, and rear park assist. Options include the bose sound system and leather upholstery.  verano leather 26,000) upgrades to leather upholstery, heated leatherette steering wheel, pushbutton start, bose sound system, and intellilink, which integrates portable devices with a smart phone.  navigation, sunroof and premium paint are options for all three models.  safety equipment includes 10 airbags, electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, tire pressure monitor, and onstar. walkaroundthe buick verano is a great looking car, with especially great lines. It totally pulls off the wedge look, short-nosed but still sleek. It will be an impressive car to drive around. That's what buicks have always been, and what they're supposed to be. What's especially impressive about verano is that it's a compact car.  hooray! At last general motors is paying attention to wheels. The new aluminum wheels are graceful 10-spokes, either standard or upgrade.  the trademark portholes appear, never mind that they're not holes. They couldn't go on the side of the fender basically because it's too shapely, so now they're almost horizontal, showing better to tall people.  the headlights are nice, clean, not overdone on the angularity. Even the grille looks okay, unmistakably buick, not scaled down much. Except never mind again that it too is faux. Just solid black plastic, grooved and coated to make shiny silver vertical slats, not a single peek through to the radiator. Air comes in through invisible black mesh (black or chocolate paint) under the bumper. Grilles are no longer grilles, they've turned into emblems.  the long chrome eyebrows extending way past the taillights, a creative use of chrome, gives the rear end a face, a character, with those mean eyes. The rear fascia is clean, and doesn't detract, though one tester found it bland. One small understated tailpipe. A dark color, like the elegant chocolate (mocha bronze metallic), enhances the lines. In lighter shades, such as the pearlescent white diamond tricoat, it looks a bit dated from the rear.  chrome trim around the window line. Behind the short c pillar there's a small rear quarter-window, more visible from the inside than the outside, on account of being blacked out. It has chrome door handles rather than clean body-colored, but that might be expecting too much. It's a buick, make no apologies. interiorthe seats offer the kind of bolstering that the cornering ability (we'll get to that) demands. There isn't anything old-man-like about them. In the lighter shades it didn't look rich but it didn't look bad.  the cloth seats that come standard are rugged, nothing old-lady-like about them. All the shapes inside are right, especially the center stack with its powerful arc like a big wave, toward the dashboard. The interior materials used for the dash, steering wheel, and some of the door trim is mediocre, average for the class, and looks like hard plastic in places.  the tachometer and speedometer are gorgeous, elegant in ice blue and easy to read. Digital info between them, easy to read but less easy to scroll through, on the left stalk with push-and-twist movements and access tricks like menus and stuff. The center stack has good buttons and dials, no problem to manipulate or understand. Nice armrests including center armrest that slides forward, but the door pockets might be bigger. The start button is just another button on the center stack but we had no trouble finding it.  rear legroom is scarce; a tall guy behind a tall guy won't work. The specs say 33. 9 inches of rear-seat legroom, which is 2. 3 inches less than the mazda3 but 2. 3 inches more than the lexus is 250. Biggest street in town, north springbrook, the nav wouldn't show us. Not under 'springbrook,' not under 'north,' only under 'n springbrook,' third try, back to scratch each time. We drove 250 miles over some great driving roads in the tillamook forest, just inland of the oregon coast. The verano loved it all and so did we.  one engine, one transmission, and for this kind of money it's great stuff, especially as it delivers 27. 5 miles per gallon with the kind of spirited driving we did. The 2. 4-liter ecotec engine with direct injection and variable valve timing makes 180 horsepower and 171pound-feet of torque, and that's enough for lots of fun. It never frustrated us with lack of acceleration, and impressed us with how smooth and quiet quiet quiet it was.  don't count on a lot of torque at 3000 rpm. Indeed, we found the response sluggish when merging from around a tight onramp into flying jersey traffic. But the power comes on good once at 4000 rpm and willingly pulls to 6000. Redline is a screaming 6700 rpm.  fun can't happen without the right transmission, and the new 6-speed automatic complements the package nicely, being smooth and intelligent. It upshifts sharply at 6000 rpm and beyond.  the rear suspension uses an uncommon z-link, to center the rear axle in turns and help the car achieve balance. Bolted to a frame crossmember, the z-link consists of a pivoting center link attached via joints at its ends, to links that go to the wheels. The turn-in was so crisp and responsive! We used the firm brakes pretty hard, and they felt good. The upward motion of the suspension was too sharp at times, however. summarythe buick verano gets top scores for styling, transmission, cornering, comfort, engine and interior. Price and fuel economy make it a winner. We recommend considering it when shopping for a premium compact, such as a lexus is or volvo s40.  sam moses filed this report to newcartestdrive. 2012 buick lacrosse review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A v6 engine is available with optional all-wheel drive.  smooth and quiet, the buick lacrosse is a nice luxury sedan. Roomy and comfortable, it's larger than the lexus es and lincoln mkz yet it's easy to maneuver around town. Out on the highway, it glides along quietly. It's an on-demand system designed for startup acceleration, long uphill grades, highway passing maneuvers, and freeway on-ramps. The electric motor adds about 15 horsepower to the gas engine's 182 horsepower and 172 foot-pounds of torque. A regenerative braking system recharges the battery when the car is coasting or when the driver hits the brakes. With all this technology going on in the background, the lacrosse eassist drives pretty much like a regular luxury car. Aerodynamic improvements including automatic shutters in the front grille of the lacrosse eassist further highway fuel economy.  2012 lacrosse v6 models get more power than last year, thanks to a retooled version of buick's 3. 6-liter v6 that now makes 303 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is available. Fuel economy numbers remain virtually unchanged at 17 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, 21 mpg combined on front-wheel drive models and 16 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, 20 mpg combined with all-wheel drive.  other changes for 2012 include a revised trim level structure.  redesigned for the 2010 model year, the buick lacrosse midsize sedan still looks contemporary, elegant and refined. The 2012 lacrosse looks as fresh as the all-new 2012 buick verano compact sedan does. It's conservative but not conventional. Buick heritage cues are evident, such as the waterfall front grille and the signature portholes. The result is a fluid exterior design that flows around the vehicle.  the interior has a finely detailed, high-quality character. Sweeping lines, soft-touch materials and genuine stitching define the dash and doors. Chrome and wood trim are used tastefully, and the materials in the headliner and upper parts of the cabin have a premium look and feel. The navigation system features a big display and is easy to operate.  we found the lacrosse comfortable yet still responsive. Engineers worked to give the lacrosse a stiff structure for a quiet cabin and a smooth ride. The suspension eats up bumps and ruts in the road, unlike the previous-generation lacrosse, but it isn't overly floaty. Braking feels confident and able. All of this makes the lacrosse a compelling choice among premium midsize sedans.  still, the 2012 buick lacrosse has stiff competition including the lauded hyundai genesis sedan, the luxurious lexus es 350, and the newly refreshed acura tl. A v6 engine is optional. All models come with a 6-speed automatic transmission.  the 2012 buick lacrosse eassist 29,960) comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, a power driver seat, split-folding rear seats, cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, onstar, bluetooth, seven-speaker sound system with cd player, satellite radio, auxiliary jack and usb connector, keyless entry, full power accessories, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels. The convenience group 30,430) adds a power lumbar adjustment for the driver seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and remote ignition.  the leather group 31,895) upgrades to leather upholstery, heated front seats, a full-power front passenger seat, heated sideview mirrors with built-in turn signal lamps, and foglights. The premium i group 32,440) adds an auto-dimming driver-side mirror, rear parking assist and driver seat memory settings.  premium ii group 33,865) comes standard with the 3. 6-liter v6 engine and adds perforated leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated leather- and wood-trimmed steering wheel, keyless ignition, and a power rear window sunshade. Premium iii 35,285) gets a sport-tuned suspension, an 11-speaker harman kardon surround-sound audio system, a 120-volt power outlet, and 18-inch chrome alloy wheels. Optional safety features include a blind-spot alert system, rear-seat side-impact airbags, and all-wheel drive. walkaroundthe buick lacrosse exterior was designed in north america, the chassis was developed in germany, and the interior was designed in china. It's no surprise, then, that the lacrosse has a definite international look to it. It's distinctly original, and yet, the car remains recognizable as a buick.  there is a notably high belt line, and the wheels are snugly enclosed at the outer ends of the body. Viewed from the side, the profile is not unlike that of a sport-compact coupe, but the lacrosse is a roomy car, and bigger than it looks.  cars with the eassist powertrain have enhanced aerodynamic touches to improve fuel economy, including automatic shutters in the grille that close at road speeds over 30 mph, a front spoiler, and flat panels underneath the car to minimize chassis drag. Standard michelin p235/50r-17 low-rolling-resistance tires further increase efficiency. interiordesign is thoughtful and materials are of good quality inside the 2012 buick lacrosse. Styled air vents on either side of the navigation screen, which mimic the design of early buicks, have a vintage feel and an ample range of adjustment. Although there are several buttons on the center stack, they are logically placed, with clearly separate areas for climate control, audio and navigation functions.  front seats are comfortable and have a wide range of adjustment, though, like most modern cars, more petite drivers might find themselves swallowed up in the broad, long cushions.  leather upholstery is of good quality, though not buttery soft. Attractive wood and contrast stitching accents doors, dash and the shifter assembly. Cloth comes standard, but we haven't seen it. Cubby storage is sufficient with a center console, though the sliding, ribbed cover for it looks like it could collect dust and crumbs.  the instrument cluster looks premium, although it's tough to see the exact speed using the analog speedometer; it's best to use the electronic version on the driver information display. The optional head-up display projects the speed on the windshield, which is handy. The head-up display, or hud, also shows compass heading and displays songs, which is handy. It also displays the outside temperature, which seems a questionable use for a head-up display. Maps are crisp and easy to read. The rearview camera provides the driver with an excellent view of what's behind the car whenever the transmission is shifted into reverse. It's a valuable safety feature because it can help the driver spot a child when moving in reverse. Guidelines give the driver a good idea of the path the car will take when backing and turning. The audio system is easy to operate.
