2008 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The great american pony car adds bullitt to its arsenal. introductionthe ford mustang defined the pony car segment in 1964 and was a runaway sales success. It helped create a niche that exploded in popularity with the camaro, firebird, barracuda, cougar, javelin, and challenger. The mustang gt comes with a 300-hp v8 and is an absolute hoot to drive, making all the right sounds, hanging onto corners tenaciously, and delivering thrilling acceleration performance. The american pony car has never been better than the current mustang gt. the mustang is available as a coupe or convertible. The mustang v6 deluxe is a nice cruiser and its 4. 0-liter v6 engine is a solid performer, all for around $20,000. But the mustang gt is what the mustang is all about and the basis of the legend. for 2008, a new bullitt model joins the herd. Faithfully styled to celebrate the hero car in the famous chase scene starring steve mcqueen, the 2008 mustang bullitt is tuned to a higher level than the standard gt. Some media have positioned the bullitt as nothing more than a hopped up mustang, but that sells what's going on here a bit short. Rather than simply bolting on some modifications and re-tuning the setup, ford took the higher road, thoroughly re-engineering and painstakingly massaging the bullitt to attain its additional performance. In other words, they did it the hard way, the right way. Ford used technology learned from development of the shelby cars, and the chief engineer for the mustang says technology gained from the development of the bullitt will be used in the next-generation mustang. In any case, the bullitt is more responsive than the mustang gt. Ford plans to build about 7,000 bullitt models. for 2008, three shelby models are available: the 319-hp shelby gt comes in coupe and convertible form along with the 540-hp shelby gt500kr coupe. Its solid rear axle is bouncy on bad pavement, however, and all this comes at a substantial price increase. for 2008, front side airbags come standard on all mustangs, and high-intensity discharge headlights and interior ambient lighting are newly available. while its styling is retro inspired, the mustang is a thoroughly modern car. 2001 ford excursion review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. As big as a bus, but best used as a tow truck. introductionford's gargantuan sport-utility is a wonderfully stable platform for towing heavy trailers and can at the same time carry a truckload of fishermen. It rides fairly well for a heavy-duty truck and it's luxurious and comfortable. For those who want to tow trailers up to 10,000 pounds, the excursion is a good alternative to a pickup with a cap. the ford excursion should not, however, be considered as an alternative to a minivan. It's far too thirsty, and its size and design make for poor maneuverability and handling when compared with minivans and light-duty suvs. lineupford excursion comes in two trim levels: xlt and limited. xlts come with a nice cloth interior with comfortable seats that offer good support for long drives and a high level of standard equipment. limited trim adds leather and a few more goodies that are optional on the xlt. More standard equipment is added to the limited models for 2001, including outside mirrors with integrated turn signals, fog lamps integrated in the front bumpers, and upgraded leather seating surfaces. three engines are available: a v8, a v10, and a turbocharged diesel. The base xlt 4x2 retails for $34,245. We drove a $37,560 xlt 4x4 with the v10. The diesel adds about $4,000 to the bottom line. walkaroundbased on ford's super duty f-series pickup trucks, the excursion is more than seven inches longer than the chevrolet suburban, the former suv heavyweight. Inside the excursion is a comfortable interior. The dash is attractive and well designed and all of the controls are easy to find and operate. excursion's rear cargo doors are split three ways. The rear doors are half height, like dutch doors. It generates 310 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. A 5. 4-liter v8 is available as a no-cost option, but few will be built; it puts out 255 horsepower and 350 foot-pounds of torque. Optional $60 trailer mirrors feature little convex mirrors at the bottom that eliminate blind spots. Ford says the class iv receiver hitch, which comes standard, is designed to prevent smaller cars from going underneath the rear bumper, while a specially designed blockerbeam is designed to accomplish the same goal up front. interiorthe excursion comes with a nicely designed interior. Six adults can ride in comfort with 48 cubic feet of cargo space left behind them. Removing the third-row seat is easy: flip the seatback forward, yank a bar at the foot of the seat and pull the seat toward the rear of the vehicle; it glides along on rollers. The seat weighs 75 pounds, but in short order i pulled it out and threw it into the back of another suv on a cold montana morning. set up as a two-seater, the excursion can carry an outlandish amount of cargo. A sheet of plywood slides in easy and lays flat on the floor. Two people could sleep in comfort on the huge, flat cargo area. Believe it or not, we managed to fill an excursion. We were finishing up a three-day float down oregon's deschutes river. He quickly stuffed all of the supplies from base camp and enough fishing equipment for eight people inside. When he was done stuffing, only seating for two remained and the rear-view mirror was rendered useless. Granted, he could have packed more efficiently, but he was grateful for such a large storage container. After reorganizing the equipment and putting some of it into another vehicle, six of us piled into the excursion and made the long trip back to the portland area. Cruising along steadily with this load, the excursion demonstrated its virtues of size, stability and power. It's smooth and quiet. The v10 is a delightful engine. It produces 310 horsepower and can propel the excursion along the interstate at high rates of speed. The v10 generates a very impressive 425 foot-pounds of torque at 3250 rpm. But an excursion 4x4 weighs about 7,200-pounds, so its acceleration performance at high altitudes seems no better than an explorer or expedition. Still, it had no trouble passing other vehicles on two-lane roads outside yellowstone national park. It seems unaffected by high altitude and i was amazed at its ability to accelerate past slower cars on two-lane roads. Think of it as an economical engine for utility companies in the flatlands. while the 4x2 comes with ford's twin i-beam front suspension and coil springs, the 4x4 uses a solid front axle and leaf springs. Differences in ride and handling between the two are surprisingly subtle. The 4x4 rides and handles superbly, tackling corners with confidence and offering good grip on dirt roads. It does not offer the ride sophistication of the newest generation suburban and yukon xl 1500-series models, however. Strong crosswinds in the madison river valley and an 18-wheeler going in the opposite direction had little effect on the excursion at highway speeds. its long wheelbase means the excursion is not a serious off-road vehicle. The excursion does not offer a system like gm's autotrac, which distributes torque front to rear automatically for slushy, inconsistent conditions. I like overkill when towing long distances through bad weather and the excursion should pull a 6,000-pound trailer better than an expedition. Unlike most suvs, all excursions come with d-load range light-truck tires, lt265/75r-16d. Supremely stable, it feels safe and secure on the open highway. Bucket Seats✔ Cloth Interior

2008 jeep liberty review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, smoother and a little larger. introductionthe jeep liberty is all-new for 2008. It's slightly bigger and has a smoother ride, but it maintains the ruggedness of the previous version. The 2008 liberty is quite capable off road, one of the best in its class. the 2008 jeep liberty is 2. 5 inches longer overall and its wheelbase is two inches longer than that of its predecessor. With heavily revised styling, the 2008 liberty is taller and more angular than the 2001-2007 models, reminiscent of the much-loved, rugged but crude 1990s jeep cherokee. Compared to recent jeep offerings such as the patriot and compass, the all-new 2008 liberty is more of a true jeep, with off-road prowess and bold, upright styling. the only engine for 2008 is a carryover 3. 7-liter v6 that makes 210 horsepower. When it comes to fuel economy, the liberty's weight and powertrain provide numbers that are on the lower end of the class. jeep has made an effort to refine the liberty and add premium options. Snow belt drivers will appreciate the new full-time all-wheel drive system available in addition to the carryover part-time system. Within its class, only the nissan xterra can claim as much off-road capability. when they redesigned it, jeep engineers set out to give the 2008 liberty pleasant road manners and, when it comes to ride quality, they succeeded. The liberty rides firmly, but irons out most bumps quite well and is stable on the highway. The liberty sacrifices handling for off-road prowess, however. The liberty leans in turns and has a floppy feeling in quick changes of direction. It's this aspect that makes the liberty most comparable to the nissan xterra and ford escape. These three are more rugged, more capable off road than the honda cr-v, toyota rav4, and the new nissan rogue, which are lighter, more agile, and more carlike. If we were heading up a rough logging road, we'd be pleased to be in a liberty. inside, the liberty has plenty of room for five. We view it as a step back in terms of materials quality and fit and finish, however. The previous liberty had more soft touch surfaces and closer panel gaps, while the current model has more hard-plastic surfaces. Still, it's not an unpleasant cockpit. cargo room is a plus. The liberty's second row seats fold flat, as does the front passenger seat, to provide plenty of room for hauling boxes, bikes and life's other accessories. with a maximum towing capacity of 5000 pounds, rugged off-road capability and plenty of cargo space, the 2008 jeep liberty is a good choice for small families or couples that tow boats or go camping. The models are sport 20,330), sport 4wd 21,940), limited 24,515), and limited 4wd 26,125). The lone engine is a 210-horsepower 3. 7-liter v6. The limited's premium sound group 395) adds jeep's uconnect wireless cell phone link to the sport's version. safety features include the mandated dual front airbags, plus head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors and front side airbags for torso protection. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and electronic stability control with rollover mitigation. The antilock brakes have rough road detection; when rough conditions are detected, the system holds the brake pulses longer to better slow the vehicle. Hill descent control is standard on 4x4 models. Optional safety features include trailer sway control and rear obstacle detection. walkaroundwhen jeep introduced the liberty in 2001, it was the middle child of a three vehicle lineup. Now that it's redesigned for 2008, it's the middle child of a seven-vehicle lineup. Compared to recent jeep offerings such as the patriot and compass, however, it is more of a true jeep, with off-road prowess and bold, upright styling. the 2008 liberty is unmistakable as a jeep. The 2008 model is 2. 5 inches longer and 0. 8 inch wider than the previous generation (2001-07), with a wheelbase that grows by 1. 8 inches. Its tall, upright, angular styling fits with the current jeep design idiom while also recalling the 1990s cherokee. It is the same platform used for the last model and it is shared with the dodge nitro. The big news here is the new rear suspension. It's an independent five-link unit that allows for greater interior room and better ride characteristics. the most noticeable aspect of the front end is jeep's characteristic seven-slot grille, which is taller on this model. The grille is body color on sport, chrome on limited. The front fascia is body color on all, and the front air dam is removable to provide more ground clearance for off-roading. from the side, the liberty looks like a junior commander, with tall windows in a squared off greenhouse. The limited's chrome theme extends to the side with chrome side trim and roof rails. These components are black on sport, and the roof rails are optional. Jeep has moved it under the floor for 2008. The tailgate also changes from a swing gate to a liftgate design, and separate opening rear glass is newly standard. jeep says its competition is the honda crv, ford escape, toyota rav4 and nissan xterra. The 2008 liberty is approximately the same size as these vehicles, but is considerably heavier than all but the xterra. It is also more capable off-road than all but the xterra. interiorthough not luxurious, the new interior of the 2008 liberty is functional. Most drivers will like the high seating position. Head room in the front seat is plentiful, but the tallest drivers will want more available front leg room. The side mirrors are large and the cabin has a lot of glass, making for fine rear visibility. the gauges are easy to spot and the controls are simple to use. The climate functions are controlled by three simple knobs and the radio and other vehicle controls are straightforward. There is a useful cubby on the center of the dash top, and sizable grab handle is located just above the smallish glove box. The center console is deep and has a removable tray on top. There is also a small tray next to the shift handle. In 4wd models, a small electronic switch replaces last year's transfer case lever. we don't think the interior feels like an upgrade from the previous generation, however. The previous liberty had some nice materials and quality finishes that are lacking in this new version. The dash, for instance, is all plastic with no sof.

2005 chevrolet colorado review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomier and more stylish than its predecessor. introductiona roomier cab was a key design goal when the chevrolet colorado was launched last year. Designed from the ground up to replace the s10 compact pickup, colorado brings a fresh name and perspective to gm's line of trucks. That perspective includes more space for humans. colorado is bigger than the old s10, and that's the trend: compact pickups are no longer compact. They're growing in size, so much so that the term 'compact pickup' may be obsolete. Colorado is an inch wider and a couple of inches longer than the s10, and its wheelbase is three inches longer. The new dodge dakota is even bigger. The new toyota tacoma is even bigger yet. Meanwhile, nissan is coming out with a new frontier that's dramatically larger than the old one. Left behind is the aging ford ranger. Ranger is five inches shorter than a comparable colorado. Yet they're still substantially smaller than full-size pickups such as the chevy silverado. the reason for this increase in size is comfort. Often, these trucks are often alternatives to cars, and their owners want more hip room, leg room and head room. Most are willing to sacrifice bed length for cab room. That's why regular cab trucks, which typically offered the longest beds, are all but extinct. The extended cab has replaced the regular cab as the truck for serious haulers, many of whom like being able to stash gear, tools, luggage, groceries behind the seats. Crew cabs have taken off in popularity because they offer the convenience of comfortable back seats for family and friends. Still, it has a six-foot bed with regular and extended cabs, and a five-foot bed on crew cabs. Colorado also gives up a little towing capability for a smoother ride. That's not to say it's lost the capability that makes a truck useful. A properly equipped colorado is rated to tow 4,000 pounds, enough for transporting atvs, dirt bikes, personal watercraft, light boats or small camping trailers. And in most configurations, the colorado can carry more weight in the bed than could a similarly equipped s10. So it'll get the job done. indeed, we think the trade-offs have paid off. Colorado is much smoother and feels more refined than the old s10, which bounced around on rough roads. And it's a bit more stylish. Order the five-cylinder engine and it accelerates smartly. (that's right: five-cylinder.) the crew cab features a roomy back seat that's surprisingly comfortable and not bolt-upright. Yet colorado fits into tight parking spaces, something that can't be said of full-size pickups. though introduced as a 2004 model, the colorado is still new to the street and we found the 2005 models continue to turn heads. The chevrolet colorado is mechanically identical to the gmc canyon, but trim and packaging differ. The z71 off-road suspension is available with 2wd and 4wd. Appropriately, the low-riding zq8 sport suspension is only available with 2wd. Each comes in base or ls trim, though equipment varies with the suspension package. Traction control is standard on 2wd ls crew cabs, and on all 2wd z71s but optional on other 2wd models 295). Curtain-style side-impact airbags designed for head protection come standard on ls crew cabs, but are optional on other models. New gen 6 onstar 695) boasts easier hands-free operation and other refinements for 2005; it's available only with ls trim. Ls crew cabs also offer optional heated, power-adjustable bucket seats with leather seating surfaces 1,495). two commercial-fleet models are available as regular cab 15,045) and extended cab 17,390) versions of the base-trim, base-suspension, 2wd truck. They come with hose-it-out vinyl floor mats and base cloth seating, ideal for muddy-boot applications. Bumpers are painted, shocks are heavy-duty gas-charged units, and air conditioning is an extra-cost option. They're good trucks to buy for other people to drive. walkaroundchevy colorado follows the styling lead of the silverado, with its bold chrome horizontal-bar grille and multi-lens headlamps. On models so equipped, fog lamps are inset into the bumper. colorado's fender bulges are angular and aggressive. The leading edge of the front fender flares isn't finished elegantly, but otherwise the colorado has a clean, modern look. The crew cab looks well balanced despite the extra cab length. Reach-through door handles allow a full handful of grip for easy opening, even with gloves. cargo boxes are 6-foot, 1-inch on regular and extended cab models and 5-foot, 1-inch on crew cabs. A two-position locking tailgate, which opens to 55 degrees or to fully horizontal, provides more cargo utility. When the tailgate is partway down, the colorado can carry a 4-by-8 foot sheet of plywood flat, supported by the wheel wells and the rear edge of the tailgate. the zq8 sport models look slammed with their lower ride height. In fact, they ride 3. 5 inches lower than the standard 2wd colorado, with a ground clearance of just 5 inches. The standard colorado has 8. 5 inches of ground clearance, 2wd or 4wd. The z71 off-road suspension raises the ground clearance to 9. 3 inches, 2wd or 4wd. all crew cab and extended cab models ride on a 126-inch wheelbase, while regular cab models ride on a 111-inch wheelbase. Overall length is 207 inches for all but regular cabs, which are 193 inches. Overall height is about 65 inches for the standard z85 suspension, 66. 3 inches with 4wd; 63. 5 inches for the low-rider zq8 sport models; 67 inches for the z71 off-road models, 2wd and 4wd. chevrolet dealers offer a range of accessories, including a bed extender, hard and soft tonneau covers, tubular assist steps and splash guards. Inside door releases feel solid and sturdy, but have the same hard feel. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, however, is well cushioned and feels good in hand and should remain comfortable for the long haul. the front bucket seats are wide and soft, but both cloth and leather versions lack lateral support. Getting into the z71 off-road models requires stepping up. The center console has cup holders that look capable of handling a variety of drink containers. The center arm rest opens into a small storage space, big enough for a large wallet, but it wobbles when pushed. A small tray on the console will be useful for all sorts of oddments that don't nee.
